The Leftovers Club : Turning Restaurant Waste Into Community Feasts.

Food waste is a significant issue in the hospitality industry, and it is well-known that restaurants often discard large quantities of perfectly edible food. This contributes to environmental harm, increases costs, and raises ethical concerns.

My idea was to create a neighborhood initiative where people in the community can subscribe to receive surplus food from local restaurants, helping to reduce food waste while fostering community bonds. Restaurants package unsold meals or nearing-expiry ingredients into creative “leftover combos”, available for pick-up by members at designated times. In exchange for a small membership fee, participants enjoy affordable, high-quality meals, with the added bonus of occasional community events like “Leftovers Night” where restaurants and members come together. This initiative not only cuts down on waste but also creates a sustainable, fun and socially engaging way to repurpose food.
